Today's
happiness tips is, value friends. Friends, both the really close ones
and more casual acquaintances make us happier.
Reasons
we need friends-
1. They help you through the tough times
We know talking to or just being with a friend helps us cope with the bad times in life. According to research published in Developmental Psychology in 2011, the level of cortisol (the stress hormone) reduces if you have the support of a friend. Close, long term friends are especially important when a relationship breaks down, someone dies or something else big that it is difficult to deal with happens in your life. The support of co workers, and friends who you don't know so well can also help you feel less isolated and give you strength to keep going.2. You can talk to them about the big issues in your life.
When you need to make a major decision it's helpful to have a friend to discuss it with. Rather than having all the pros and cons racing about in your head you can voice them out loud. This helps you sort out your thoughts and you can get input from someone else if you want a second opinion. A 2010 study which was written up in Psychological Science said having someone to discuss the big issues with was important in contributing to a person's overall well-being. That didn't surprise me.3. Having friends helps us feel optimistic
Problems
don't seem as bad when we have a friend to share them with. People
who have social support on a daily basis feel more optimistic about
life.
4. You have someone to share your joy with
When you get good news you enjoy it even more and feel happier when you have a friend or friends to share it with. True friends will be happy for you. It is fun to celebrate together.
